“I am proud to be a member of the inaugural class of the NHCC‐Corporate Executive Development Program. After
the first week of the Program, I can say that I found the planning and execution to be flawless, the facility at
SMU‐COX to be first class and the instructors and curricula to be best‐in‐class.
The energy and integrity displayed by David Gonzales, Art Ruiz and Ray Celaya reflect their passion and the
commitment they have made to increasing opportunities for the advancement of Hispanic leadership in
corporate America. Session 2
Phase 2 gave me real perspective in the area of leveraging diversity as it applies to building teams. I learned that
as our population and markets grow increasingly diverse, we as executives, must increase our ability to
understand relationships between our internal and external customers. I learned the power of decision making by
the use of a variety of perspectives. Powerful!
In my current role at Sprint, I am heavily involved with coaching and developing others, so I found the
Coaching and Mentoring session of particular benefit as I can take my learning and apply it to real‐time
situations on the job.
I found the Establishing Trust and Credibility to boost Personal Effectiveness session extremely rewarding and
have already begun to apply my training to my work with Sprint especially in my current interim role while
managing, essentially, my peers.
I gained a new understanding of what it means to be “emotionally hijacked” when confronted with difficult
situations and how to maintain my assertiveness when emotions run high. I found this session to extremely
effective and can’t wait to put my training into play at work!
Overall, Phase 1 gave us the foundational setting to be in the best position to learn effectively in Phase 2.
Phase 2 was well paced, well organized and I cannot say enough about the talent of the professors Dr.
Quinones has put in front of us! I am delighted with the support and encouragement of the Executive Advisors
who are genuinely interested in us an in our success!
In a word, Bravo! Session 3
Phase 3 allowed me to gain insight as to what it takes to lead an organization. The coursework and instruction
were educational and well constructed. The “open forum” discussion approach allowed me to envision myself as
a corporate leader as well as to gain perspective from my fellow students.
Building social capitol helped me to understand the critical importance of networking for career advancement
and Driving Organizational Change was particularly enlightening.
Overall viewpoint on the educational experience as well as how the knowledge and applied skills gained will equip
you for career success:
My experience at the NHCC-CEDP will affect the way I conduct myself and the way I navigate my career for years
to come. The programs that were covered were directly applicable to my current role in my organization and I am
eternally grateful for the training I received and the hospitality, professionalism and the genuine caring of the
NHCC-CEDP advisors, educators and staff.
